Finland should work to build similar hydrogen industry like Sweden does at the moment, write Helena Sarén from Business Finland and Matti Malkamäki, the CEO of Aurelia Turbines in their opinion piece in Kauppalehti, the leading business daily of Finland.
“Sweden is currently building a large hydrogen industry in northern Sweden. The Swedish government estimates that it will bring 50,000 new jobs to northern Sweden, with 100,000 new residents.
New industry is now being built around hydrogen, primarily where cheap and emission-free electricity is plentiful, because the transmission of energy as electricity or hydrogen always costs money. We were discussing the future of hydrogen in Sweden at the invitation of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. It became clear that the Swedes aim to build all new, clean industry to their territory.
Finland should work in the same direction as Sweden. The west coast of Finland is ideal for generating electricity from wind power, and Ostrobothnia is closer to the northern hydrogen coast of Sweden than to southern Sweden. In fact, Sweden needs Finland's wind power and hydrogen to reach its growth targets.”
