Aurelia joins the world’s largest corporate responsibility initiative

Aurelia has joined the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate responsibility initiative. In 2000, the UN challenged companies to conduct their business responsibly. The UN Global Compact operates in more than 160 countries. More than 15,000 companies and over 3,000 other organisations are involved.

Aurelia and other organisations committed to the initiative comply with international obligations related to working conditions, human rights, the environment and the prevention of corruption in all countries where they operate. The compact provides companies with a framework for accountability that is recognised around the world.

The UN Global Compact provides companies with information, support, training and tools for building responsible and successful businesses.

The Ten Principles

The UN Global Compact supports companies’ sustainability work through its Ten Principles and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Organisations that join the UN Global Compact commit to adopting, supporting and implementing these core values related to human rights, labour principles, the environment and anti-corruption within their spheres of influence.

The Ten Principles are:

Human Rights

Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and

Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Labour

Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;

Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;

Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and

Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Environment

Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;

Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and

Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Anti-Corruption

Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

UN Global Compact Network Finland

The Finnish UN Global Compact Local Network aims to strengthen Finnish companies’ leadership in corporate responsibility and sustainable growth and encourage them to find new business opportunities in the international UN Global Compact network.

The Global Compact Network Finland supports companies’ sustainability work by organising events, seminars and discussions at the national level. It also acts as a link between UN Global Compact actors and companies, providing information and tools to support companies in their sustainability work.

The UN Global Compact Network Finland operates as a registered association whose membership is open to companies and communities committed to the UN Global Compact initiative. It operates as an independent organisation in close cooperation with the UN Global Compact Headquarters.

Annual reporting and stakeholder engagement policy

Aurelia's commitment to the UN Global Compact will be evident in several ways. From now on, Aurelia will report annually on its work to implement the principles to the UN Global Compact organisation. Doing so will increase the credibility of Aurelia’s sustainability reporting.

The Ten Principles will also guide Aurelia’s stakeholder engagement. In other words, Aurelia expects its partners to commit to those same principles.

Aurelia is now part of a larger network and will reap the benefits that come with it. Aurelia’s participation in that network reinforces its corporate image as an environmentally conscious company and underscores the importance of sustainability to its technology development and management.
